Public preview of Flash Player 8 Universal build now available

We are finally ready to offer you a universal binary of Flash Player 8 for OS X. Take a look at this tech note and the post by Emmy Huang, the product manager of the Flash Player.

This is a public preview, we do not see this as the final release. That is the reason you do not see it right now on the main download page. There is still some work on our side to finalize it, something we will try to accomplish with Flash Player 8.5.

Of note, we fixed the 'blue text' issue, along with the alpha blending bug which was reported to us. It should also be a tad faster, but please: do not use this build for benchmarking, it's really not reflecting what we are trying to reach in Flash Player 8.5 for MacTel systems.

Now if we could only get a version for Windows XP 64-bit IE browser, I would be a happy camper

Just wondering if you'd be interested in bloging / podcasting about Matrixstream's cutting edge video on demand and IPTV Technology ( TV over broadband ). This is a technology that allows the consumer to receive a potential for unlimited VOD / IPTV content up to 1080P in H.264 codec over any broadband connection on a PC Player or set top box for TV ( IMX1020 1080P High definition STB - the world's first 1080P H.264 STB ) If you'd like to see pictures and video's of the this new STB you can go to www.matrixstream.com/presskit . Let us know if your interested.

Thank you! Just tried it out on a campaign site I'd made that ran really slow on the previous player but now runs much more satisfying! Great!

The update due to the vulnerability disabled Flash in both Safari and my UB Firefox. This restores the functionality. Phew!
