Little old school fire effect using Flash Player 8

This mini demo here is using the new BitmapData API. Implementing old school demo effects is suddenly so easy with Flash 8. I feel like I am back in 1992 ;-)

Things have certainly changed in the scene since then, now it's really all about 3D. One of my favorite modern demos is from farbrausch (which along with haujobb is probably the best known group) called candytron.

Anyway, enjoy:

Tinic-

It's very cool.

I remember, it was quite hard for me to write something similar in C or PASCAL, I needed to enable different VGA mode then use inline assembly to tweak things :)

One of the things that catch my attention here is if you select the text in the top textfield, the glow effect changes to accomodate its shape to the part of the text that you have selected.

the glow changing to accomodate the shape of the selection too is meant to happen - it's part of the new flash as I understand it, it just goes to prove how dynamic the effect really is - I'd be interesed to know whether text could be kept selectable and not have this 'feature' too tho - sometimes it wouldn't be cool for this to be the case.

This is the best fire demo I have ever seen for flash.

Like some of the others, I would love to have access to the source. My capabilities are a long way from being able to create this without some help.

Is there a way to look at this precious source ? :)

Nice job ;)

I need some realistic fire for the intro of my website... I am asking myself if i'll do it in flash or try to find some good fires tuts on 3dsmax... anyway, max will be heavier, maybe nicer, but flash will keep it dynamic ;)

see ya,

Fenryll
